                         Unit 5 Canada-- The True North

          教學(xué)目標(biāo)

          (1).Enable students to catch the main idea by fast reading

          (2).Help students find out detailed information through careful reading

          (3).Help students learn about geography, population, main cities, natural beauty of Canada

          (4).Encourage students to express themselves with the language learned in class

          學(xué)情分析

           本節(jié)課的教學(xué)對象為高中一年級(jí)科的學(xué)生,他們智力發(fā)展趨于成熟,英語學(xué)習(xí)運(yùn)用能力較弱。從學(xué)生們的學(xué)習(xí)動(dòng)機(jī),學(xué)習(xí)方法,學(xué)習(xí)心理方面看,他們需要提升自覺性,促進(jìn)自主化。學(xué)生已完成高一英語必修一,二的學(xué)習(xí),漸漸習(xí)慣高中英語課堂容量大的特點(diǎn),也適應(yīng)了我的教法。

           Get students to figure out the characteristics of Vancouver, Calgary and Thunder Bay

          教學(xué)過程

          Step one: Lead- in and Warming-up

            Ask students “Do you like traveling?” to introduce the topic of traveling. Let students guess What country will I visit nextwith the help of three tips ( maple trees, five lakes and 5,500 kms) to lead in the country --- Canada.To get more basic knowledge of Canada, a competition will be held.

          Step two While-reading

          1. Ask students to look at the title of the passage to think out What is The True Northin the passage?Go through the passage quickly to finish the following task:

           ? What is the passage mainly about?

              It is about a trip of two girls; and it tells us some information about Canada.

           ?

          Brief introduction about the trip

          who

          Li Daiyu and her cousin Liu Qian

          why

          to visit their cousins

          where

          Montreal on the Atlantic Ocean

          how

          first by plane to Vancouver , then by train

           

          2. Read the passage quickly and draw the route of the two girls traveling across Canada.

           

          3. Read the text carefully(para2-para4) and find the main characteristics of three cities .  

          Vancouver

          Canadas  warmest  part.                                                                

          Canadas  most beautiful city, surrounded by mountains and the Pacific Ocean.

          People can ski in the Rocky Mountains and sail in the harbour.

          One of Canadas most popular cities to live in.

          Some of the oldest and most beautiful forests in the world.

          They crossed the Rocky Mountain.

          They managed to catch sight of some mountain goats and even a grizzly bear and an eagle.

          The next stop: Calgary

          Calgary is famous for Calgary Stampede

          The cowboys have a gift for riding wild horses and they can win thousands of dollars in prizes

          Thunder Bay is a busy port city.

          Thunder Bay is at the top of Great Lakes.

          Step Three After Reading

           Ask students to tell What the True North in the passage isafter reading the passage.

           Help students to give a presentation of main cities of Canada.

           

          Step Four: Summary

           Life is like a book, those who dont travel read only one page

           

          Step Six: Enjoy a song

           Enjoy a song about traveling (Take me home, country road)

           

          Step Seven: Homework

           Write down your tour guide speech in the exercise book.
